Agave fields at dusk, Mexico

Our Story

Eighteen generations in pursuit of perfection.

Casa Cristal was not built. It was inherited — passed from hand to hand, generation to generation, across the highlands and valleys of Mexico.

The Beginning

A lineage older than the nation itself.

Long before mezcal had a name, the families behind Casa Cristal were already tending agave in the volcanic soils of Oaxaca. The tradition began in the remote highland villages of what is now Las Margaritas — a place so isolated that its methods of clay pot distillation survived unchanged for centuries.

With a combined eighteen generations, those same methods endure. Not as nostalgia, but as conviction. Every decision made at Casa Cristal — from the agave species selected to the territory of harvest — is a direct continuation of that original practice.

The Vision

Born from tradition. Crafted for the exceptional.

Casa Cristal was founded on a single principle: that the finest mezcal in the world is defined not by the distillery, but by the land. Each expression in the collection is a numbered, limited release — a single agave species from a single territory of origin, produced in quantities that honor the plant's natural scarcity.

The result is a portfolio of six expressions that together map the full breadth of Mexico's mezcal-producing regions — from the high desert plateau of San Luis Potosí to the ancient valleys and remote villages of Oaxaca.

Terroir

The land is the recipe.

Mezcal is, above all else, an expression of place. The same agave species grown in different soils, at different altitudes, under different skies, produces spirits of entirely different character. Casa Cristal works exclusively within three territories — each chosen for the singular quality it imparts to the agave that grows there.

The High Desert

San Luis Potosí

At extreme altitude on the high desert plateau of San Luis Potosí, Agave Salmiana grows slowly in mineral-rich volcanic soils under a vast, unforgiving sky. The result is a mezcal of crystalline clarity — herbaceous, bright, and unmistakably of its place.

The Ancient Valley

Sola de Vega · Oaxaca

In the ancient valleys of Sola de Vega, volcanic earth and generations of tradition converge. This is the heartland of Espadín, Cuishe, and Agave Tequilana Weber — each species producing mezcal of extraordinary depth, smoke, and complexity.

III

The Remote Highland

Las Margaritas · Oaxaca

In the remote highland villages of Las Margaritas, clay pot distillation has been practiced without interruption for centuries. The mezcal produced here carries the weight of that isolation — profound, smoky, and unlike anything produced anywhere else.

Los Maestros Mezcaleros

The hands behind the spirit.

A Maestro Mezcalero is not a job title. It is a calling — earned over decades of apprenticeship, passed from parent to child, refined through thousands of batches and an intimate understanding of the land. The families behind Casa Cristal have held this calling for eighteen generations.

The Families of Las Margaritas

Las Margaritas · Oaxaca

In the remote highlands of Las Margaritas, the clay pot tradition has been guarded by the same families for centuries. Their mezcal is distilled in hand-formed clay vessels — a technique that imparts a mineral, earthy character found nowhere else. Each batch is numbered and sealed by hand.

The Families of Sola de Vega

Sola de Vega · Oaxaca

The valley families of Sola de Vega are masters of the earthen pit roast — a method that defines the smoky, complex character of Oaxacan mezcal. Their agave fields stretch across volcanic hillsides tended by the same hands for generations, each plant harvested only at peak maturity.

The Families of San Luis Potosí

San Luis Potosí

On the high desert plateau, the Salmiana families work with one of the most demanding agave species in Mexico — a plant that takes twelve to fifteen years to reach maturity and yields a mezcal of rare, crystalline purity. Their patience is the product.

The Process

Nothing is rushed. Nothing is wasted.

Every bottle of Casa Cristal is the result of years of patience — from the agave in the ground to the spirit in the glass. The process is ancient, deliberate, and unchanged.

01

Cultivation

Agave plants are cultivated for seven to fifteen years depending on species — never harvested before peak maturity. Each plant is selected by hand.

02

Harvest

The piña — the heart of the agave — is harvested by the Maestro Mezcalero at the precise moment of peak sugar content. Timing is everything.

03

Roasting

Piñas are roasted in earthen pits lined with volcanic rock and burning mesquite — or above ground for certain species — for three to five days. This is the source of mezcal's signature smoke.

04

Fermentation

Crushed agave fibers and juice ferment in open-air wooden vats using only wild, ambient yeast. Fermentation takes five to ten days depending on temperature and season.

05

Distillation

Double-distilled in copper pot stills or traditional clay pots, depending on the expression. No additives. No shortcuts. The spirit is cut by hand to proof.

06

Bottling

Each bottle is numbered, filled, and sealed by hand in limited quantities. The batch number is recorded. The expression is complete.

Six expressions. Eighteen generations. One vision.

Casa Cristal is the culmination of everything that came before — and the beginning of everything still to come.
